Adding Comment Fields to Multiple Choice Questions

Back to Help Center

Multiple choice questions are a great way to gather structured feedback. That said, if you want your survey takers to elaborate on their response, we recommend adding a comment field to gather more information.

Getting Started

  • Build your Multiple Choice question

MultiChoiceNoComments
  • In your survey draft, tick the Include comment field checkbox to enable comments in the question customization panel of the survey builder.

MultiChoicecommentEnable
  • When the Include comment field checkbox is ticked, you’ll see speech-bubble shaped icons appear next to each response option. Toggle these icons to enable or disable comments for each response option.

  • After you’ve selected which response option(s) you’d like to add a comment field on, you’ll label your comment field. When you send out your survey, the comment field will appear when the respondent selects a response option with a comment field enabled.

Mapping to Salesforce

If you're using our Salesforce integration, you can map the comment fields responses into Salesforce. Navigate to Edit Draft > Mappings > Custom Mappings to map your multiple choice question and comments to Salesforce. From here you'll be able to create your mappings based on the answers selected or the comments added by your survey takers.

If you’re hoping to map your multiple choice responses to a picklist field - we recommend making a custom text field for your comment responses in Salesforce as well. Comment fields don’t play nicely with restricted picklist fields in Salesforce.
